Pure Tranquility: A Harmonious Blend of Light and Space

In the bustling harbor cityscape, Ke-Chung Li introduces "Pure Tranquility," a residential house that stands as a bastion of calm and clarity. Adjacent to a tourist pier, the home is designed to complement the scenic ocean vista, ensuring that the interior does not compete with nature's own masterpiece. Li's approach to the design is rooted in simplicity and harmony, where less is indeed more. By incorporating vast white spaces and strategic storage solutions, the residence maintains a clutter-free environment that is both aesthetically pleasing and mentally soothing.

What sets Pure Tranquility apart is its commitment to health and environmental consciousness in an urban setting plagued by pollution. Li's use of eco-friendly mineral paint is a testament to this, with its ability to neutralize odors and regulate humidity. The choice of white as the dominant color scheme serves a dual purpose: it amplifies natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting, and provides a visual respite from the overstimulation of city life. The house's design, featuring four rooms, a reading area, and ample play space, caters to the needs of a modern family while fostering a sense of openness and freedom.

The technical prowess behind Pure Tranquility is evident in its construction. Li's selection of building materials and color palettes is not only an aesthetic choice but also a functional one. Initiated in July 2021 and completed in January 2023, the project faced challenges unique to its coastal location in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan. The design team, led by Li, had to contend with the corrosive effects of ocean humidity and salinity on both comfort and construction materials. Through the use of advanced technology, they achieved a controlled environment that optimizes air quality, temperature, and sunlight, thus creating a comfortable living space that is in harmony with its geographical context.

Li's research delved into the human-centric aspects of design, seeking to understand behavior, emotion, and interaction. The aim was to craft an environment that would serve as a retreat from the information overload of urban life, allowing residents to reconnect with nature from within their own home. The result is a space that not only meets the functional needs of its inhabitants but also enhances their well-being.

The Pure Tranquility project has been recognized for its innovative and practical design, earning the Iron in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2024. This accolade underscores the project's successful integration of industry best practices and technical excellence. Ke-Chung Li and Wholeness Design have created a living space that not only fulfills the needs of its residents but also contributes to a better, more harmonious world.
